Week #8 plan (November 1)

you need VINE CHARCOAL and a KNEADED ERASER

Warm up at the beginning of class with gesture drawings (20x 60" each)

Long poses (20' each)
Set up by using the side of your vine charcoal to make an entire page a medium gray.
Draw by alternating between your eraser and charcoal.
Use the eraser to pull out the light areas, particularly the highlights.
Use the charcoal to push back the dark areas.

LINE is less important with this exercise.
LIGHT and SHADOW are the focus of this class meeting.

Homework, due the following week (November 8)

Draw a self portrait:
pay most attention to the LOCATION of your eyes, nose, mouth, ears;
and very little attention to the outlined shape of those features
